SURVEY: TOP 100 BANDS of the SECOND GOLDEN AGE OF OPM ROCK (1990-present).

Glam rock. Pop rock. Metal. Emo. Ethnic. Rap. Alternative.

Whatever. Name all your yearnings.

18 years. 18 answers. As the first decade of the century comes to a close, we remember the bands that made as head bang, mosh, cry, laugh, and made you drink. These bands destroyed the futures that were supposed to be inherited by the next RICHARD REYNOSO, CHAD BORJA, DINGDONG AVANZADO, GINO PADILLA, and VINCENT DAFFALONG!

This is also one of them reasons why LLOYD UMALI’s career never really skyrocketed.

Anyway, this is the best time to be a “bandie”. The competition the world (US for that matter) is offering is a bunch of eye liner-wearing emo guys and hip-hop artists. Hell, even Hanson stopped (they have seriously outgrown their former MMMBOP state) producing their heartfelt tunes.

Yeah, I’m a fan of their new tracks. DEAL WITH IT.

So I’m asking you… NAY, BEGGING YOU… to help me. As my first BIG WRITEUP for 2008, I plan to make a blog about the TOP 100 BANDS of the SECOND GOLDEN AGE OF OPM ROCK.

The criteria of the chosen bands must be A) They had one major hit; B) You like them; C) You actually heard them play; D) They are OPM (not just because one member is a Fil-Am, thus disqualifying Moonpools and Caterpillars); E) Ranks will be considered on how their success led to the evolution of the genre and years they dictated the pace; and F) They actually exist and will not cause any fracas once I finished this blog.

As it stands the Fab Four likely to garner votes are legendary alternative jammers the Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Parokya Ni Edgar, and the heavy-rocking Wolfgang. Listed below are some of the bands that could figure in the list. While you can vote all you want, the 90’s bands have more bearing than the 2000 bands.

And yeah, vote all you want but to make this a lot credible I guess we’ll bring about a max of 30 votes for each person. That is kind of big considering the scope of the topic. Perhaps you can add their most memorable song or something. Whatever. The most important thing here is to shelve out the bands that you drool on.

I suddenly want to make a thesis. Wait… oh… that’s my… insanity kicking in.

Here are the stuffs. Listed in the first 20 are my votes. The rest are in no particular order (although I placed the prominent bands ahead of the indie bands). And if I missed a band that you like, feel free to insert them. But make no mistake, commercialism is the first and foremost basis of the list and unless a band actually had a mainstream hit, pillaging this thread of nonsense will never work.

With or without an outstanding amount of votes, voting ends in the second week of February. By then you can rant about the results.

blind, well yeah, they aren't bands but they are not classified as balladeers either. Just like Joey Ayala, Grace Nono, Francis Magalona, and Cynthia Alexander, they are part of the band culture where the fact that they can do solo doesn't mean that they don't rely on the twangs and the beats of their musical instruments. plus we know they all came from bands.

anyway, can you actually say that they can be distinguish as a part of the balladeer core evolving around the likes of sarah geronimo, piolo pascual, and ara mina?

if that's the case then you can also disqualify bamboo since despite we know that this is an actual band, the name clearly came from the band's vocalist (bamboo + 3 well known rockers).

of course i won't take out bamboo... just like i won't take out the rest of the vocalists in the list.

by the way... vote man.
